Owner: Veterans Administration Medical Center
Engineer: Fanning, Baird, Larson
Project: Addition to Main Building
Contract Amt: $1,250,000
Completion: August 1990
Construction of a masonry perimeter wall with a wood roof structure. The facility was constructed using all non-ferrous material for the MRI device.
Prior to actual construction, we relocated the four six inch water lines that surround the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
Once the water lines were relocated, we over excavated the site. During the over excavation of the site the two high voltage duct banks that intersected the site had to be shored. The concrete foundation and masonry wall were constructed utilizing fiberglass-reinforcing material. All metal connections were for the wood frames were constructed from aluminum.
The building interior comprised of standard architectural materials, carpet, vinyl tile, acoustical ceiling. The mechanical systems was complex, our
mechanical subcontractor installed domestic hot and cold water, steam and condensate pipe lines, chilled water supply and return, then several piping line for medical gassed.
The electrical systems were not as complicated but more than most building, power distribution systems, conditioned power systems, nurse call systems, fire alarm systems, public address systems. All mechanical and electrical systems were connected to the Veterans Administration Medical Center system.
